Here we go! This has been promised to you – an Ovulation Tutorial! There are so many variations to what a 'normal' cycle should look like, but for the purpose of clarity – I'm going to talk about how it should look in theory. We can discuss variations down the track.
Here's something I don't want you to do. Get all hoity toity on me, and start to obsess about ovulation. It isn't useful – it adds stress to the already stressful fertility game, and keeps your mind constantly thinking about it. But, it can be useful as a diagnostic tool, to see how things are going hormonally, and for you to have some peace of mind that you are indeed ovulating. So, let's hop to it.
This is how a typical month should look. I want to explain the chart below thoroughly, so I'm going to break it down to simple town. Remember, this is all a 'rough' guide time wise. All women will vary – and that is perfectly normal.

Ok so it is fairly standard that the period will last anywhere from 2-7 days. In the clinic, I like to see a period be no longer than 5 days and we implement measures to ensure this is achieved. It is important that blood loss isn't too significant. It should be no more than 6 tablespoons – not that I want you to measure! But it's a great guide (however, it's difficult to tell with the standard of sanitary products now days).

If you experience a 1 day bleed that is quite dry and dark without proper flow, there is a chance you aren't ovulating, and it's a good idea to speak to a natural fertility specialist.
Now, from this point on is where the fun starts. To put this into practice, you will need to learn to feel what your body is telling you. As grey as it sounds, you can actually 'feel' ovulation via your cervical mucus. You know when you get your period? It feels a certain way 'down there,' (think about it – it feels wet and warm around the opening of the vagina). Ovulation is mostly the same, although it feels wet and cold. It's not necessarily about what you can physically see in terms of cervical mucus, it is more about what you can feel.
Typically one should have several 'dry' days before they start to notice a small amount of mucus (days 6 – 9), followed by the feeling of moistness (days 10 – 12). This can last for several days until you begin to feel signs of optimal fertility – clear and stretchy cervical mucus – remember it feels wet and cold. Cervical mucus is essential for contraception. It is the sperm's mode of transport up to the eagerly waiting egg. The cervix secretes this vital fertile mucus. When the semen is ejaculated into the vagina, the sperm will make it's way up to the cervical crypts (where the mucus is secreted from) where it stays for a bit, and takes a little rest to be fed and rejuvenated (I find it hilarious that it is already hungry!), before it continues on up to meet the egg. If you take a look at fertile cervical mucus under a microscope, it has many little channels – unlike infertile mucus with is a 'criss cross' pattern which makes it impossible for the sperm to swim through.

Fertile Mucus can last for several days. Ovulation isn't the day you see the most fertile signs – it is the LAST day that you see or feel it.
So in this instance, it is cycle day 15, even though there has been fertile mucus present for 3 days – because it is the final day that this wet feeling is experienced. The tricky part is that it isn't something you will know until after the event. But don't think you can't fall pregnant outside this time. It happens! You might like to read about that more here.
Now from cycle day 16 right through to 28, you will notice there is very little or no mucus. This is normal. During this time (it is called the Luteal Phase) your body is busy either implanting an embryo or preparing for your period. Should you notice mucus or discharge at this time, it may be indicative of excess 'damp' in your body, which may or may not be affecting you fertility – wouldn't hurt to get that checked out. What is damp? It is what chinese medicine refers to when there is an accumulation in your body, as a result of some organs not working as well as they should. It can be easily fixed. Think of it like damp that can sit under a house.
Should your cycles be a bit out of whack – say ovulation is occurring earlier or later – it's something that is good to have checked out again by somebody like me, because hormonally you may be lacking, and the consequence is 'sub fertility.' This means that you are potentially fertile, but hormonally you are imbalanced. So for example, ovulating on cycle day 9 is a problem, because it means an immature follicle is being released – making it almost impossible to be fertilised. Or your luteal phase (from ovulation to the period time) is too short, meaning that if there is a growing embryo, it can't continue to grow because it isn't being supplied hormonally with all it requires. In almost all cases, we can treat this and begin to improve fertility. We have a swag of tricks that can be applied in these circumstances.
Now I expect questions – so please, fire away. I hope this has been informative and you have a better understanding of ovulation – remember, we can fall pregnant outside these times in some circumstances – but at least being able to read your body is a great start.

Thank you Nat for this great post. I have a short ovulation phase and a short luteal phase. Would you recommend accupuncture for this?
Thanks!
Absolutely – that and herbal supplements – it is very treatable! Depending on how short – it may be essential to treat.
Thank you Natalie…this was so helpful, as usual!
I use a DivaCup so I actually know how how many “ounces” I shed every month — I’d say it’s usually closer to 5 oz (or 10 tbs). Is that bad? If it matters, there is water mixed in there too … which sometimes settles to the bottom. (Sorry, this is getting really TMI!) I also have clots, even though I’ve been seeing an accupuncturist for 3 months. They are getting smaller, and the blood is getting less brown. Does that mean I’m making progress? My accupuncturist said that getting your period shouldn’t be a huge ordeal like it is for me every month — no crazy cramps, no crazy mood swings, no heavy bleeding, etc. Do you agree?
I also feel like ovulation lasts so long for me… last month my CM was REALLY watery for 4 days, (like gushing out of me) then I had 2 days of eggwhite. It just seems like something’s “off” with the timing. I’m trying to be patient and just trust my TCM doctor, but it’s hard. I also ovulate on day 18 and have a 12 day luteal phase, so on the surface it seems like I have normal monthly cycles if you aren’t looking at my chart. But again, the timing is off. My husband and I have been trying for more than a year, so I know my hormones are off. He has no sperm issues.
Do you have any tips for sub-fertile women or poor ovulators? Thank you for your very readable and informative blog!
Karen, difficult to say without seeing you – answer in short, so long as the luteal phase is more than 11 days, and that you can pin point ovulation, it shouldn’t be a problem. Unless of course you do get crazy periods, then there may be more to it. So long as you remember ovulation is the last of those days. Remember sex is really important all month around as I’ve mentioned so many times before. Nat
Do you think it is normal to have delayed ovulation with breastfeeding a toddler (22 months, feeding 6ish times in 24 hours still)? I’m taking 5-6 weeks to ovulate and then have a 14 day luteal phase. I’ve got a history of long cycles so not sure if it’s the breastfeeding affecting it or if I should be able to work towards shorter cycles.
absolutely normal – that is exactly what breastfeeding will do.
This is very normal as breastfeeding inhibits ovulation – sometimes your body will follow through and other times it won’t. It’s totally acceptable.
Hi Nat
Such an interesting, and relevant, post! Quick question – I have been tracking my cycles via BBT and according to Fertility Friend I ovulated on Day 20, with watery white CM. From Day 24 – 26 I had proper stretchy EWCM. Should I go by my temperature or my CM when looking for ovulation?
I have been told not to try for another baby (my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage) until I can get my ovulation below CD20, as it looks like my progesterone levels are too low.
Do you have any advice on how to bring on ovulation earlier in my cycle (or bump up my progesterone)? I am currently taking Chaste Tree supplements and will be having monthly acupuncture, around a week after my period begins.
Is there anything else I can be doing?
Thanks xx
Hi Kate – looks like you are definitely ovulating later.
It’s difficult for me to comment without actually seeing you – nothing is a one size fits all approach.
One thing that will definitely be beneficial in the luteal phase is regular sex. This helps increase uterine blood flow and keeps progesterone up.
Definitely go by EWCM not temperature – temp is good to use in conjunction with CM but not a definite on its own.
Hi, Natalie! Thx ‘for your informative post…. my cycles are totally different from what you describe. I’m 28 and I have PCOS (one side only), acne and facial hair. At the moment I’m on clomid, but it seems it doesn’t work so I’ll soon start fsh injections. What should I do to improve my chances to conceive? I don’t smoke, don’t drink, eat a gluten free and mainly vegetarian diet (red meat is bad for my acne), no processed food and very limited sugar (my doctor says it is important that my weight does not increase even if my BMI is less than 25), I don’t have a job and I do get enough sleep. I’m seeing a psychologist for my anxiety for medical procedures. I honestly do not know what to do more or what I’m doing wrong and infertility is a source of stress and anxiety. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thx a lot.
Mrs G – absolutely many woman’s cycles will be different to this. This is what they should look like in a ‘perfect’ situation. Is clomid not working because you aren’t testing for a positive ovulation test? Are you getting a menstrual period? The emotional factors associated with reproductive health and infertility can have a big impact on fertility – it makes for a tricky situation because the stress about having a baby, in turn creates the anxiety and it becomes a tricky circle. If you are having acupuncture and implementing treatments that help your body to cope better, this can be a great start.
Thx for your reply. Yes, I always get a period (even if cyclus lenghts vary) and sometimes even very painful ones. I had 5 cycli of clomid and I got ovulation twice (checked by a sonogram), however my blood test showed an hormonal imbalance that prevents me to get pregnant. I will follow your advice and try to address stress even if (for the moment, at least) I won’t try acupunture because it scares me (I know it’s not painful, but the very idea terrifies me). Thx a lot.
Please know Mrs G – there is always a solution, you just need to find somebody who will look hard enough.
Great article Nat, thanks for the info it will definitely help!
Such a detailed article, thank you! I am currenty having issues with my cycle after being on the Depo Provera injection for 18 months. My last injection was in July 2011 and my cycle has only just become regular, however the entire cycle only lasts 14 days. I am currently getting accupunture and am on an aray of vitamins and herbs for this but I am wondering if you have any other ways to assist in elongating my cycle back to normal? I am very healthy, have a high alkaline diet and exercise often. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
it’s difficult – certainly not a one size fits all approach. See what it does over the next few cycles and reassess. We do also offer online consults if that helps. Nat
This is so helpful! Thanks!
Do you have any recommendations on finding a “you” in the U.S.? I’m not sure what to be looking for and when I look online it is kind of overwhelming.
Not that I know of! I’m sure there are people that specialise in natural fertility but when we combine it with TCM in the way that we do – it is very unique! Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
When is the best time to have (unprotected) sex if you DO NOT want to get pregnant ?
Is it straight after your period finishes ?
My period is perfect 28 day cycle and lasts 3-5 days (last 2 days I use panty liner).
Count 3 days from ovulation – and then go for gold! Generally when there is no fertile mucus, you are considered out for the count!
Hi! I have a quick question to ask. My cycle length is usually 32 days long and I usually have ovalutation on day 17. I have normal mucus throughout ovalution and become dry after. Unfortunately for the past year I have started being wet three to four days before my period and then have mucus throughout my period, which usually lasts for days. Is the wetness before period a bad thing?
Wetness before the period isn’t bad necessarily – we have a mucus plus that comes away just before the period. Are you trying to fall pregnant? Obviously you don’t have to answer that on here – but it can be something to look at and a sign of weak digestion from a TCM viewpoint if you have cervical fluid throughout the cycle not necessarily at the right times.
Great post! I’ve come off the pill 5 months ago & cycles are out of whack, last one was 73 days!
Had stretchy cm 9 days ago for 3 days but have just got it again and am co fused!! Do you think I should see someone if we don’t get pregnant this month??
Thanks for advice x
whenever you see stretchy mucus, your body is at least trying to ovulate. Time sex with this for best chances. It’s not uncommon for several attempts – the key is watching for it. So if you see fertile mucus and then it comes back several days later, the first time you saw it was simply an attempt to ovulate. The second time (assuming it is the final time) will be ovulation.
Hi Nat!
I’m wanting to you your thoughts on the copper IUD? I had one in for the last year and a half- but got it taken out last week- as i found from reseraching on the internet- it gives side effects: of weight gain, and copper overload in the body if left in for more than a year- which is similar to estrogen dominace in the body— was i right to get it taken out? I do feel it was not right to have some metal inside me for that long period of time, but i am terrified of falling pregant now….
Kindest Regards, Liz
All interventions come with side effects. I’m not a huge fan (as you can probably tell). I think allowing your body to do what it’s built to do is best. Learn to read your fertile times – this is key, and can be extremely successful once you know.
just wanting to know if you can ovulate way early in your cycle? since having two children (with no hassels at all) i have now been ‘trying’ for over a year with no success. i seen to get the ‘wet mucus’ at the end of my period and it is a dark brown colour becuase of the finishing of m y periods. i usually only get one day of bleeding (and its not very heavy) then a few days with nothing and then a “blob” of blood as a last thing ending with the wet mucus that is a dark brown colour about 5 days after starting my periods. i have down ovulating tests and they have said that im ovulating and tests wit h a dr that has said im fertile and ovulate and doesnt know whay im not falling pregnant. do you have any suggestions as to why im may not be (hubby is all good too). i have had 2 cesearans and have heard that that can play a role aswell. thankyou! robbi
This is very possible. Ovulating in the period time however may make it difficult to conceive because hormonally the follicular phase (from cycle day 1 to ovulation) is too short effectively meaning the follicle released is too immature to fertilise. This can indicate there is some hormone imbalance – which is very treatable but would explain why you are having trouble falling pregnant also. So essentially yes you are ovulating which is wonderful – but you would need to look at some treatment benefit the menstrual cycle. I hope this helps! We do offer online consultations. Nat x
hod o you do online consultations? does it cost much? im gettin desprate and dont know what to do. i know something must be out because i fell pregnant so easily the first two times, im just not sure what it is that is out! i would love some guidence as to what i can do to help my chances to be higher. i also believe i have had some very early miscarriages as i have had a whole week of heavy bleeding (which is unusual for me) and it usually is either earlier or later than my normal cycle. thankyou for answering back to me!!
thankyou,
Online consultations are $80 for initial and $40 for follow up plus supplements.
Before doing anything – check in with your husband. Is his semen up to scratch? Stress, smoking, alcohol, high intensity exercise.. all these things will affect quality and contribute to miscarriage.
Hi, I’m so glad I pointed in your direction!
Is it possible to have a relatively regular cycle (22 days between periods and 3 days of “bleeding” ie dark brown smears with not much flow) and occasional EWCW and still not be ovulating? I read something on an other article of yours about if you get periods you are ovulating and it confused me.
Thanks for your help.
Good Morning,
Thank you so much for a wonderful article. It sheds some light on the situation. I am someone of older age 42 and I am trying to concieve my first child. I have always had regular 25-28 day periods. I have tried IVF twice and both were unsucessful. I know that my age is gettung up there and it might be to late for me, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions for me. One thing I have never understood about my body is maybe around day 8 I get this clearly jelly discharge. It lasts for a couple days and then I appear to go dry. Then I seem to have what I call ovualtion pain in my lower abdomen and lower back on Day 15. At this time I also experience wetness. Can you help me understand what you think is going on with me. All the fertility doctors here say there is nothing wrong with my reproductive systerm. It is unexplained infertility.’
Thank you in advance,
Karen
It appears you ovulate CD 15 or thereabouts. When you have the wetness. The earlier discharge is a mucus plug that is normal and forms post period. It comes away well before ovulation. This is all very normal.
Thanks Nat this has been such an informative tutorial. Can u plz help me in resolving my issue as i have been searching long but has not come to any conclusion. i have been married for a year and a half but as my husband is abroad so we have been together for just 3 months. during this time i used to get most of the pregnancy symptoms early own like bloating, food cravings, mood swings, breast tenderness and the symptoms remain for the whole month as not just before menstruation , then my mensus gets disturb not that they get irregular but i start having dark brown discharge instead of fresh blood. All pregnancy tests come up negative so no pregnancy thats for sure.otherwise i always have very regular periods just like the one mentioned in your first chart.
waiting for your reply
thanks
this may be indicating hormone imbalance. It is difficult for me to say without actually knowing more info but I’d be looking into this to get some answers.
Question: I have had the merena in for 4 years, in witch I never had a period. The merena came out 3 weeks ago, on invesitigation the ginea discovered a cist the size of a 22 week old fetus, the cist was removed as we’ll as my left overy because the cist caused some damage to the overy. My hubby and I want to try for a baby, the window for us to have another baby seems so small, since I have had 3miscarrages before and our chances with one ovary now seems even more impossible to have a little one. I do have 2boys aged 5 and 9, but we want to try one last time, since this might be our last chance to have another baby. How would I know if I am oviolating if I have not had a period for so long? I have heard of stories of people that conceive right away after the merena is removed. Do you have some advise for us? Do you think it is a good idea to get some medication to promote oviolation, or in your opinion should we just wait it out? We would appreciate any advise, opinion, it is always better to also seek someone elses point of veiw on a matter. Eagarly awaiting your reply. Joan
I don’t advocate for medication to promote ovulation – but rather search to find why ovulation isn’t occurring in the first place. There is always a reason as to why and it is important to find a solution. If you haven’t had a period, then you aren’t ovulating. You do have to take action and find some answers though – it seems your hormone imbalance is stopping ovulation. Have you looking into PCOS?
Hi Nat,thanks for d info.pls for the last two months,ve noticed some dryness evn during my ovulation.it wasn’t happening to me before.pls will like to get advice frm u. Thanks
Hello. I’ve had menstrual changes lately. I had severe pain and delayed period in December (32 day cycle). In Jan. I had a 30 day cycle (usually my average) and in Feb., I had a 25 day cycle that I’ve never had before. I have many symptoms of underactive thyroid and my mother developed hypothyroidism after having children. I’m currently taking Vit. B Complex, Zinc, Magnesium, Vitamin D, Essential Fatty Acids, and Prenatal as we are trying to conceive our 3rd child. I also have many of the classic hypothy. signs such as feeling cold, exhausted all the time, hair texture changes, weight gain, feeling sad. My GP initially thought that I had the baby blues as these changes started 1 year ago, when my daughter turned 1. I have been battling these annoying symptoms since then and we have been ttc since the summer with no luck…..I am also undergoing acupuncture in the ear, elbow, and knee to hopefully improve thyroid function as my TSH is considered normal , but my free T-4 is low normal and almost out of the normal range. I apologize for writing a book here….I’m just desperate for any advice so I can get pregnant soon! Thanks
So I was told I had a short luteal phase..through basal temp checks I have consistently for the past 4 months ovulating on the 14 th day..but my doctor said to increase the length of the luteal phase put me on 50 mg of clomid I did the 1st cycle and through temp checks I haven’t ovulated..its like the meds stopped ovulation.. Is this possible..do I do another cycle..is there a different drug to try..or go holistic? Please help
Unfortunately clomid won’t fix your luteal phase – there are lots of things that will though! Go holistic if you know where to go – are you local?
What if my cycle is 32 – 32 days, does this mean my ovulation is likely to start a few days latter? I’m trying to work out exactly when would be the “normal”time for me to begin ovulation as I’m beginning to wonder if I am one of those people who’s timing is out of wack.
That is correct – just a few days later.
Just confused….. I had ovulation pain on day 12 of a day 27 cycle, heavy wetness days 14 & 15. Did an ovulation test on day 15 which was positive. Confused in that does ovulation pain mean ovulation? Had int on day 10….ta
Yes ovulation is occuring for you CD15 not CD12. Wetness is the key indicator always.
Hi there…. I usaully have sore breasts 2- 3 weeks befor I have my period, but not this month ( well so far…) Should I just wait up the two week wait? What are the chances that I could be pregnant
hi Nat. I was wondering if you’ve come across this problem before. I’m getting a light bleed around day 25 which doesn’t feel like a period ie lighter and no cramps or breast tenderness. This bleed seems to be instead of ovulation (my bbt stays low and no cm). Then about 14 days later I get my proper period. Makes TTC rather difficult.
Yes – this is ovulation. Sometimes you will see some spotting when there is a shift in hormones.
Even though there is no rise in temp and no ‘fertile’ mucus?
Hi Nat.nearly 7 weeks ago i had my implanon removed after 3 years of having in my arm.
Last 2 years there were no period for me at all and still nothing.
From my first day of removing i have done lots of opk test with one nearly positive about 2-3 weeks ago. But all the time i have felt dry. Until 5 days ago i felt very wet .that wetness stayed for 4 days. I have checked once my mucus ( second day of wetness) and it was strechy. I did have pain in my right side especially in my last day of wetness that pain was very strong and uncomfortable. I done opk test during those 3 wet days when on the 3rd day was dark but again not as dark as should be. Suddently i got very dry for the last 2 days. I’m still having mild pain on my right side but its not bad.
What is going on with my body. Did i finaly ovulate? Its nearly 7 weeks since removal and more then 2 years without a period .can you tell me if i should worry?
I had my period which finished on the 2/3/13. Then from the 15 – 18 March, i had small amount of brown bleeding. I took an ovulation test today (2/4/13) and it came babk positive, however a pregancy test was negative. We are trying to concieve but not sure about details.
Help
Confused
I’m confused by this sorry Nyree. You had spotting 3/15-18/13, which sounds like ovulation if you had your period two weeks after this. Now you are ovulating.
Does it mean 15th day starting 4rm d 1st day of my last period is d ovulation period 4 a 28days circle person? & pls hw many days does sperm surviev in d body b4 ovulation & after ovulation?
Hi, I have been having regular unprotected sex for almost three years now, I am ovulating regulary but havnt got pregnant, I do only have 1 ovary.. Could this be why or should I go back to the doctors ??
Perhaps you might like to have a semen analysis to see how your partners semen quality is. You also need to time sex with your fertile signs.
I had my period on2/4/13 and finished on 8/4/13 I want to know if it is normal and when am suppose to ovulate
Ovulation can occur any time during the month – it is best to watch your fertile mucus to confirm this.
Hi I’m experiencing a very unusual period. It has come a few days (max 7 days) early, it’s very light flow(not enough to use tampon or towel) it’s like a brown tinged mucus.
I’m usually fairly regular 28-32 days, with a medium flow.
I’ve also had no cramping this month. I’m a bit worried as this is our first month ttc!
I’ve taken two hpt both neg. what would you recommend?
not to get your hopes up but it sounds like implantation bleeding. Wait until the actual due date of your period and then test. I never was one to get a positive test until my period was actually due. x
Hi my question is, i looked on the ovulation calculator and it says that my ovulation days is between the 10th and 15th of april my partner and i had unprotected sex on the 10th whats the chances of me still falling pregnant we are planning on having a baby but i just want to know if i still have a chance at all or should we wait and try again next time
Check out the video on the site that details this out for you.
And the other question i also have is how long after u feel the ovulation pain of the egg do u actually get to ur full peek of ovulation
Hi there I unfortunately suffered a miscarriage in Nov. Since then I think I have had regular period although I do suffer from a treated underactive thyroid. This month was first time I tried opk and got a positive result day 11 and 12 then negative day 13. I notced a lot of ewcm but it is on day 11 and according to my calendar I’m not due to ovulate until around day 17 due to cycle around 31-32 days. I read your second last paragraph about a problem if ovulate too early. Do u think I could be suffering from this? If so what should I do? We so want to conceive a healthy baby as soo as we can. Thank you.
So you’re ovulating around CD11 or 12 – that’s enough to make a baby! Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you’re ovulating when your calendar says so. Always watch your fertile egg white cervical mucus and time with this. So long as it isn’t any less than CD11 you’re good to go!
Thanks so much we have been trying the last few months but no joy and I’m hoping its because we were using the calendar when actually just be ov earlier. But we will keep up the bd as much as we can just in case. So just to clarify- if opk is +ve and I have ewcm does that definit mean I’m ovulating then? Sorry if its a silly question. Thanks again.
exactly – If you EVER see egg white fertile cervical mucus, you are considered ovulating. If you’re getting a +ve OPK then that is ovulation CD11 or 12 or whatever it is (it can change month to month).
Dear Natalie,
If sperm are able to live inside the vagina for up to 72 hours would that also mean that you need to be careful on the wet days leading up to ovulation; in addition to the 3 days after ovulation?
Thank you for this wonderful post!
Hi Nat, my son is 9 months old. I am still breastfeeding him several times a day and also at least once during the night. Before falling pregnant my periods were usually regular 28 days. I have been having my period for 5 months now, but it now is heavier than before I had my son, and lasts for 6-7 days rather than 5. My cycle is also at least 30 -32 days. Is this because I am breastfeeding, or is it something I should be getting looked into?
Babies change everything! I’d say it’s probably a combination of all of these things – certainly nothing to be concerned about though. x
Hi im really mixed up with my ovulation, I came off the pill and ovulated on day 12, for a few months, now theyre messed up, I used to have ovulation cramps the day I was ovulating, but now seem to cramp for a few days on and off, ive bought some ovulation sticks and have read your information which is great thanks, do you have any extra ideas?????
This was really helpful link!
My period is always between 27-30 days so just sorta of ranges between those days!
And my ovulationd is between days 11-13, is this too early?
Thank you (:
nope – that all sounds great! nice one x
thanks for the lecture, i actually have a day 28 circle but didn’t ovulate on day 9 or 14 rateher all i get is feeling wet inside me which makes me feel like it has come down my panties but when i check myself i will be so dry.please i need your advice.
My son is 8 months old and I completely stopped breast feeding two months ago – partly due to work and I want my second close in age. My period has not yet returned but I have been keeping track of my CM to see when ovulation returns. I have noticed that I get 2-3 days of ewcm, then two weeks later I get cramping like I would when I used to get my period but don’t get my period and have another 2-3 days of very wet ewcm. Is this normal, can you ovulate without getting a period?
Sorry, I forgot to ask, is there anything i can do to encourage a healthy cycle and ovulation sooner or is it just a matter of time?
Ok I had contraceptive implant taken out 13th October 2012, period on 13 November 2012 heavy lasting 5 days, then next period 21st December 2012 very heavy lasting 5 days. Lastly light spotting no 10th Jan 2013 ending on 12th jan 2013. Got positive pregnancy test 4 th deb 2013. My due date is confirmed by scan to be 11 October 2013. Ok my question is if according to my APP I conceived 17th Jan 2013, so does that mean I ovulated 10 days after the first day of a very light period (only panty liner needed). I thought that wasn’t possible. Please help the curiosity is killing me. Am I just a miracle? Or does this happen sometimes?
Hi I have a question about timing. I usually have just 1 day each cycle of EWCM and it generally occurs 3 days before ovulation according to my BBT charting. Is it more important to time intercourse on the day of EWCM or the day of, or day before, ovulation as indicated by the temperature chart?
Thanks!
hi i had my peroid on the 22nd -27th april . on that night did have unprotected sex and again on the 28th and 29th . the 29th was one of my fertile days then on the 1st may i had pain in my lower adonal which felt like my peroid but thats not due until the 18th of may. the day after i had some back pain and still am also some pain in my legs .

Hi I’ve been pregnant and had 2 healthy babies a yr apart. No problem falling first time round for both. Not on any contraception and know when I ovulate. Period started 28th April and since 5th may we have been having fun every second day. I should be ovulating now but instead have been cramping alot more than the last two pregnancies. Could it be that we are already pregnant and I’m not getting that clear mucus discharge I always get? My periods are on about 30-32 day cycle so come end of this month I would be 4wks pregnant thanks so much. Love your website
Hi Im really confused, i had my little girl 18 months ago before i had her my period was every 4 weeks after i had her they have been all over the place sometimes i get a period every 6 weeks . my period last month was 2oth april lasted 4 days and today i have my period so it seems to be back to 4 weekly this month, so i never know when im most fertile etc can u shed any light on this plz????????
If you are still breastfeeding this is normal. Otherwise it looks like your hormones need some balancing.
i am on day 18 of my cycle. my cycle is 30 days. i have very dry cm. i do use a ovulation calender and have been for the past year and my af comes on time with the calender. my question is is it normal to have dry cm on day 18 of my cycle. the calender said that i should ovulate on the on may 19 day 17 of my cycle.. i have also been checking my cm every day. now for me my cm is normaly like lotion most of the month and dry 3-4 days before aunt flo. i was worried about this but the doctor said that it was ok and that i dont have any infections. i never have ewcm. when i do get it its after sex which i think is my hubby sperm. but i dont get it at anytime in my cycle without sex. i do have 3 children from another marriage youngest is 13. i am 38 hubby 30. we have been preg 3 times all lost to miss. last one lasted 3 months. i dont check my temp. is this normal please give any advice that you can. i know this is advice but all will help. i have an appt in october with a fertility doc.
Hello
My husband and I have started trying for a baby. Last month unsuccessful and I was 26 day and this month is 24 day, the first day of my last period was 9 May 2013, doing my calculations meant I would have been fertile from Thursday to Monday (yesterday). Does this sound about right? Also, this time, except for Friday, we have been having sex every day, is that ok? or is it too much? Some websites say every day, some say every other day and some say two-three times a week. What would you advise?
I don’t think there is anything else I can do now and just hope my period doesn’t arrive, so fingers crossed. But some insight on the above would be good.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Gemma
